Could Danny Ainge Be the Next Celtics Head Coach?

Wow, Jackie MacMullan on Sportscenter saying there's a possibility that Danny Ainge is head coach next year for the Celtics— Umair Khan (@UKhanNBA) June 23, 2013With the deal finally done to send Doc Rivers to the LA Clippers for a 2015 first round draft pick, it's time to start thinking about who will be taking over the Celtics as head coach. I've seen Lionel Hollins, George Karl, Brian Shaw, Tyronn Lue, David Fizdale (Heat Asst.), and Kevin Garnett all suggested as viable replacements. But, Jackie MacMullan came up with a name I haven't heard before, but it makes a certain degree of sense. For one thing, in this strictly rebuilding season, the Celtics don't want to pay a lot for a coach. They also need a coach who can get the respect of the players because some are certain to feel disrespected or deserted by Doc's sudden departure to coach another team. Rondo just pledged his allegiance to Doc in an interview and said that he didn't want to play for any other coach. It's going to be hard for another coach to come in and get his respect right away. Danny knows the personnel and the system. He knows the organization. And, he should have the respect of all of them. Danny is a Celtic. He won two championships with the Celtics. After retiring in 1995, Danny became the head coach of the Phoenix Suns the following year. His coaching record was 136-90. He resigned as coach of the Suns in the 1999-2000 season because he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family. Danny was a good coach but he was considerably younger back then. I think he'd be a good coach, but the question is, why would he want to put himself through all that again. It's an interesting thought. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
